Old school, fear based culture

Why change when you are profitible? Unfortunately they do not see that they would be more successful if they were to embrace modern, ethical approaches to sales and management. Micromanagement, public beratement, and an unmatched arrogance define the sales culture. A locker room mentality with no management training or any respect for the individual make EMC a great place to work for bullies and alcoholics. I would not recommend working for or buying from this company.

Fun place to work but its not for everyone

Had a good time working there but with all of the changes recently with Dell going private, my position was eliminated. Dell does not value talent and has laid off entire groups of very talented and loyal employees. Ever changing management at the higher level as well as the contact reorgs of the various divisions is going to continue to drive Dell downhill. Very hard to get promoted once in your job.

Dell privatization created waves of change

Dell's transition to a private company resulted in people of all levels from the executives down to leave the company. Great talent was lost in the process. My co-workers were good people driven to succeed. Everyone would pitch in when someone needed information or help. I learned a great deal working at Dell. My strategic selling skills improved due to the focus on selling to meet the needs of an organization and not just IT. Managers across the large enterprise space were very slow to respond to email and phone messages.

A good job, acknowledgment for success

Typical day at Dell •Handle inbound and outbound calls from current and potential customers •Leverage customer loyalty by initiating relationship-enhancing sales conversation •Assist customers with problems, complaints, returns, mail-in-rebates or any other customer service related issues •Assisted individuals and small business clients with placing orders, networking set up and overall long term needs What I learned • The ability to actively listen to the customer and reviewing their account to position products based on needs and benefits. • How to deal with the ambiguity of a call center • How to manage the stress of meeting the required daily and monthly metrics. The hardest part of the job • building rapport, and convincing the inexperienced customers that you are the professional, when the customer has a predetermined price they want to spend, however the price they want to pay is not enough for their business or personal needs

My personal opinion is that Dell is a great company, but the environment in the Sales dept. for the Latin America region had a lot of politics involved.

Great work life balance but very little turn over

Typical day is following up with customers looking for opportunities and customer visits. Best part of the job is the work life balance. Most difficult is the limited opportunity to move up in the organization and managements unwillingness to learn the Canadian business (managed out of the US).Team at Dell is fantastic! Great people! Lots of talent.
